Probably the best destination in Vancouver
for gelato
(Italian ice
cream), Gelarmony makes over 60 flavours
of 3
different iced
delicacies: gelato, sorbeto, and soy gelato.
The gelato are
very soft
and smooth, as they ought to be, and the
sorbeto taste
very much like
fresh fruit. The soy gelato are unexpectedly
creamy and
tasty. Flavors change often, and include the
several
varieties
of vanilla, strawberry or chocolate, as well as
the more
unusual
candied chestnut, almond, white chocolate,
mango or
guava -- and many,
many others. A regular size serving (4 small
scoops, up to 4
flavours)
will set you back about $5. Mondo Gelato
also has iced
cakes
(consisting of several layers of gelato),
espresso and
paninis.
Gelarmony has another store in Vancouver
at 1222 Robson street, as well as stores in
Rome and Beijing.

Mondo is by far my favorite gelateria in North America so far...
Try the pistachio (made with imported pistachios from Italy) and nociolla (hazelnut) for a traditional killer combo...
The only thing I can think of that kind of hinders it from being truly authentic IMHO, is that as far as gelato consistency, it leans a little more to the firmer side than the really creamy side like you would experience in a gelateria in Italy. However, that's just being really nitpicky, who knows, maybe it has something to do with Canadian dairy being unable to reach that same creamy state.
Why oh why isn't there a Mondo in Toronto?!
