In her magic kitchen (right in front of your eyes)
Helena bakes a wide variety of first-rate savoury
pies, quite possibly the best in Toronto. Each
pie has its own specific crust, be it a regular
pie crust, puff pastry, filo, shortbread or raised
dough. Our favourite baked goods include the wild
mushroom pie, on a delicious light, flaky,
puff-pastry like crust, and the feta-mushroom
tomato pie, on a bread-like raised crust. They're
so good it's hard not to try both in one meal!
Pies are served with a choice of two side
salads -- here again the assortment of salads is
of good quality, creative and prepared on the
premises.Helena usually makes one dessert
every day; we particularly like the very
apple-rich apple pie, moist and fruity (without
the overly sweet gooey liquid), on an excellent
shortbread crust. Helena's magic kitchen is
definitely not your average boring chain food
stall! Don't miss it when you're near Village by
the Grange.

I used to work near Helena's and went there for lunch almost every day. It's the one thing I miss most about working downtown. The thing I like best is that some of the foods were always available and at other times, there were surprises. I loved the salads, pierogies and other vegetarian foods. I know that the meat eaters in my office also enjoyed the meat dishes.
