Pound Cake Recipe (Quatre Quarts)
The French quatre quarts, a variety of pound cake, is made
with the same quantity of four ingredients: flour, sugar, butter, and
eggs. It is usually baked in a rectangular mold. Pre-heat the
oven at 160 degrees C. Mix the soft butter and the eggs together until
the mixture is smooth. Add the eggs, mix until smooth again, and then
stirr in the flour, baking powder and salt. Butter a rectangular
mold and bake for about one hour at 160 C (use a sharp knife to check
if the cake is completely baked before taking it out of the oven).
You can easily flavour this cake with poppy seeds, or shredded lemon
or orange peels (about 2 tsp of either, to include at the end).
