This Austrian-style cafe offers many layered
cakes
sold by
the slice,
fresh-baked cookies (the nut-paste filled
cookies
are very
good), and
has a small truffles counter. Possibly their
best
pastry is the
apple
strudel (a mix of apples, raisins and spices
surrounded by a
thin,
light flaky pastry, invented in Vienna).
While the
average
strudel
found in most places has very little to say
for
it, Sweet
Gallery's
strudels are perfect: moist inside and flaky
outside, with
the
subtle taste and texture of apples that, for
once,
have not
been
drowned in sugar and spice. Yummy!

I visit Sweet Gallery on Mt. Pleasant often. My family and I enjoy their desserts, coffees and occasional lunches. The place is very elegant and tidy and servers are polite enough for our taste. I agree with some who said that this is not the place where you will be treated with 'pub like' politeness. As regulars, we are always greeted with a polite smile and hello from our server, and the owner, who is often there, would greet us too, and frankly, what more can you ask for from a cafe.
I think that this is part of the charm of this place - they are different. I also appreciate that the staff are all regular looking people. I like to be served by someone who looks tidy and who is not pierced, tattooed or has pink hair - it gives me sort of an assurance about the hygiene standard of the entire place. I also like that their coffee is served in Italian coffee cups and you get nice clean glasses which are not made of plastic and don't smell of detergent. It shows that someone had made effort to give class to the place instead of going for the cheapest stuff available. I hope that they will stay in business for a long time.

The Sweet Gallery BAKERY makes world class cakes. But as far as their SHOPS, I use the Mount Pleasant location. I avoid the Bloor West location even now that I live nearby. After visiting it a couple of times, I decided I'd rather bring my business to the more distant Mount Pleasant shop - those guys do deserve it
